It all started on a boat.
OUR STORY STARTED ON A 100 DAY LONG PINISI SCHOONER, BOAT ADVENTURE THROUGHOUT THE INDONESIAN ARCHIPELAGO, BACK IN 2005. TWO MONTHS LATER WE FOUND OURSELVES WITH A BROKEN SHIP ON A DARK AND STORMY OCEAN. THE EVENTS THAT FOLLOWED INITIATED AND SHAPED THE CORE GROUP BEHIND THE SURF CAMP LOMBOK.
What makes us
who we are
We could say it’s the waves and the views that make us one of the best surf camps in Lombok, but our connection to the village is what brings integrity to our presence in Gerupuk. We learn so much from the land and its people, who are primarily generational fishermen. We try to keep the Lombok surf camp as open as possible to all.
For several years, we ran Pelita Foundation where local kids could learn to speak English. Our skate bowl has always been a gathering point for kids, teenagers and adults alike, the optimal meeting point for our campers and local community. Our local crew bring zest and flavor into the Lombok surf camp, ensuring that our campers get a little glimpse of life in our sleepy, little fishing village.
Through the years we have established some basic human principles that let us stay open minded and open hearted. Every day, we strive to live by these principles.
We encourage you to share your personality, ideas and your creativity. This camp is the result of countless examples of just that.

SURF CAMP LOMBOK WAS CO-FOUNDED BY A GROUP OF FRIENDS WITH ZERO START UP CAPITAL AND LIMITED EXPERIENCE, THIS JOURNEY WAS EXCEPTIONALLY REWARDING AND ALSO HELPED US FOUND A FEW OTHER PROJECTS THAT ARE MORE OR LESS CONNECTED TO THE SURF CAMP DAILY OPERATION.
Banyu Surfboards
Surf Camp Lombok has written surfing history by starting the first shaping bay in Lombok. BANYU was co-founded with local partners Sudir and Sukran in 2010, our surfboards are all hand made in quality materials from Green Room. BANYU and the SCL surf coaches all work together to co-create beautiful custom designs. This is a rare and unique opportunity to create a surfboard that truly resonates with your personal taste and approach to surfing in Lombok.
The A´boya
The SCL story started with an adventure on a traditional wooden sailing boat exploring the Indonesian archipelago for waves. The dream to build a boat and continue the search for waves and adventure in the remote parts of the archipelago became a reality in 2014. And since setting sail in 2015 we have sailed the last untouched areas and found gold at the end of the rainbow. Join us for an unforgettable journey and true exploration off the beaten path.
What’s next?
The dream continues and our vision expands. We hope to integrate free-diving/spearfishing and a long term solution for digital nomads to the fray next, but we’re open to going in whatever direction the wind blows us. Our story is only partially about surfing, the biggest bits are filled in by the colorful people that stroll into our camp and make it what it is. Thank you for choosing to surf with us.
